Who Is Flying H Ranch?

Our family has been dedicated to producing high-quality natural grass-fed Angus beef since 1946, starting with our Grandpa Hoggan. We  have continued to pass down our knowledge and passion of beef cattle ranching to the younger generations who are following us up from behind. Brad took the reins from his father, Grandpa Hoggan in 1974.

Our family celebrated Brad's legacy on his 70th birthday (2022) and his only request was to have a family picture taken. This picture represents the 3-generations still with us at Flying~H~Ranch. We are standing on the front porch and stairs of the home my Great-Grandfather built with his own two hands and this his is the childhood home of our Grandfather. What a monumental moment for our family! We each reflected on our heritage, traditions, and discussed the future.

Some of the family felt it was time for their Father (Brad) to retire and start enjoying his golden years, with their Mother, family and friends.

But as Brad reflected back on his years of beef cattle ranching, he became unsettled. He thought about the greed of the big Beef Corporations, their Management and how that greed had grown and grown and is still growing today. Brad was truly upset how these Corporations have overly taken advantage of him and the consumer. It was at that moment, Brad announced to his family that he was no longer going to line the pockets of those beef corporations. He was going to start sell his beef direct to the public.

Brad finished by saying "everyone should be able to feed their family at a fare price, starting with our Angus beef!"

This marked a new beginning for Flying H Ranch that was both exciting and terrifying at the same time. We had never sold to the public before and we didn't know what that would encompass. With Brad as our patriarch, the visionary and true optimist. He gave us the courage that we have needed to help him make this happen. The hardest part has been getting our name out there and building a customer base. We went from selling semi-truck loads of cattle at a single time, to selling cattle individually one at a time.

THE HISTORY OF FLYING~H~RANCH AND WHERE IT ALL BEGAN...

Starting with Brad's Great-Great Grandpa Reid who believed being a cattle rancher and steward of the land is something that goes hand in hand. His beliefs and values of responsibility for the land and environment was enacted when Grandpa Reid filed a suit for damages between the Ranchers/Farmers vs Utah Copper Mine (Kennecott Copper) in the United States District Court of Utah. This was Utah's first environmental lawsuit, it was called the Smoke Abatement Act. Grandpa Reid represented himself and some of the Ranchers/Farmers from the area. Grandpa Reid was in pursuit of justice for clean air and water. Smelters were producing sulfur dioxide gas, asbestos, arsenic, mercury and other toxic chemicals which dispersed into the atmosphere. This contributed to illness among individuals, animals, and caused significant crop damage to these ranchers. Toxic mining waste was being deposited in nearby creeks and on valley slopes, which later eroded and washed downstream. This lead to contamination of soil and surface water for the individuals of the area. "Grandpa Reid had to deal with the big attorneys of the copper company, who were a stiff bunch. It was suggested that Grandpa Reid hire an attorney to work with, but he insisted on acting as his own attorney. Notwithstanding their shrewdness, Grandpa Reid was firm, and at conclusion received what he thought was fair for himself and the other ranchers/farmers.

Grandpa Reid and his brothers pleaded their own case in transacting their business and succeeded. They were known for their integrity and made their voices heard to make huge changes within their community and for their community.
